Bloggers are good people. Fun to know and I learn a lot from others. Most of us like Martha. I think she was unkind only thinking herself as superior. Many people who write blogs are successful and enjoy helping others and many times for free!

No!! Not an UNTESTED RECIPE! The horror!! Here we have people who aren’t TRAINED EDITORS daring to write things down! Dogs and cats living together…mass hysteria!
I think Martha is going to get some blowback for this, and she’ll be surprised at how much. Bloggers (who are these people, anyway? Martha never heard of them) are opinionated and mouthy. Now, obviously bloggers come in every flavor of taste and quality, and indeed some folks produce junk. But the beauty of a free marketplace of ideas is that no one has to read a blog. If a blog produces too much junk, it will not do well. The recipes get tested in our kitchens and if they aren’t very good, we don’t make them again, and they probably end up on that Pinterest Fail page that is so entertaining. It doesn’t matter that much!
In fact there was a great blog post a few months ago about producing crap, and now I can’t find it and I’m sad. Does anyone remember that?

PS: of course people should not be lifting recipes and designs and passing them off as original. Give credit, people!! But that’s an endemic problem, though it’s probably worse in the blogosphere. Has Martha really developed all those recipes at her company?

Martha is a wealth of many good attributes. She is strong, imaginative, persistent, focused, capable… But although I don’t watch her any more, I don’t dislike her… However, I never get the impression of kindness, serenity, or genuine interest in others… I’m never surprised. I could care less if she apologizes for it. Or not.. We are all just peons to her…. I don’t read her blog because her accomplishments come enforced by a herd of paid assistants… I do read a great many blog authors such as you…. because you are real, creative, skillful, sparkling, yet fallible, human, and openly humble. And I love you…

Oh.My.Word. Arrogant much! I’m assuming that Martha sprang, fully formed and “expert” from her mother’s womb? No? Oh. You do surprise me. Recipes – well, I guess unless you’re Heston Blumenthal, nothing is ever going to be original. Someone, somewhere will have done it before you and that includes all the bits and pieces that Martha produces. Sorry, that her highly paid team of assistants produce. As you said, Alison, biting the hand that feeds her. Presumably going to prison has not taught her anything. How sad. Personally, I love all the blogs I read. I weed out the ones that don’t speak to me or that don’t work for me, and concentrate on the rest. I would far rather try something a blogger has put time and effort into than something Ms Stewart proclaims is the thing to do. But then, what do I know? I’m not an expert or an editor. Hey ho. 🙂

I agree with Gayla, I don’t have anything against Martha, but she is just not a warm person. There are some bloggers out there who have gobs of money and staff like Martha, but I prefer to follow the ones who are keeping a home using their creativity seasoned with love. I don’t care what Martha thinks.Clara

Well at least she didn’t say that she found bloggers to be pests and not very likable at some point in the past as she recently told Bethenny Frankel ( to her face about 3 times ) when she was a recent guest on the Bethenny Frankel Talk Show ,Actually Martha referred to Bethenny as having been a pest and not so likeable back then as the reason why Bethenny only placed runnerup in Martha’s Apprentice Show and thus the honor went to someone else. Well that’s what happens when you ask Martha . She will give her honest albeit RUDE !!!! opinion . Martha doesn’t know it but like everyone else she is not perfect ! But God love her or rather Gotta love her . Oh Martha … Oh brother ! 🙂

Should we not share recipes with our friends and neighbors, either, unless they’ve been run through a test kitchen and edited by a magazine editor? I have plenty of criticisms of Martha’s recipes and products (including more than one recipe that didn’t work as it should have and a pan with a handle that was much too heavy and so constantly tipping). Still, I appreciate much of what Martha does and the lovely magazine she publishes. I’m not sure Martha understands the friendship aspect of blogging.

I far prefer to read an open, funny and honest account of a project or recipe from a real person that I can relate to. The problem with Martha, is she forgets that not everyone has huge amounts of wealth, time and staff at their disposal. She’s completely out of touch with how real people – the people watching her shows and visiting her website – live. Not everyone wants to define themselves by the brands they wear and most people just can’t afford to buy designer goods however tasteful. Her site is pretty to look at, but lacks substance – let’s face it, life just isn’t that perfect and neither are we. It is a standard that no normal person can live up to.
The best bloggers are those who are not afraid to share their mistakes and don’t hide behind a facade of staged photographs and branding.

I understand that a lot of what she said was edited out and the journalist interviewer was setting her up.
