Puttery Treats For the Autumn

* Add a spoonful of honey and a sprinkle of cinnamon to your morning Canarino for an autumnal take on a healthy, infection fighting,  morning drink…

* Change the ink in your fountain pen to a rich brown or seasonal bottle green…

* Fill a jar with homemade honeycomb. A breeze to make and the perfect sweet treat for cozy evenings…

* Seek out a recording of  Orpheus and Eurydice: Dance of the Blessed Spirits, for it is deliciously Autumnal and makes the quite most perfect accompaniment to mornings spent baking in the kitchen…

* Make a Home Sweet Home sampler your craft project of the season…

* Fill a small planter with colorful twigs and bare leaves and display it on a garden table laden with gourds and pumpkins in preparation for Halloween…

* Paint Autumnal leaves with melted beeswax and capture their beautiful colors for the rest of the season…

* There is no soup quite as lovely as Minestrone. It is Autumn in a bowl. This weekend make it your business to perfect your very own recipe…

* Clean all empty garden pots thoroughly before putting them away so they don’t grow mouldy during the Winter…

* Ring the changes at bedtime by stirring a tablespoonful of peanut butter into your bedtime cocoa…

* Add cedarwood and patchouli oils to sea salt and a spoonful of olive oil for a soothing, cosseting bath on cold nights…

* Seek out a roll of  seasonal Washi tape with which to seal every letter you send. Yep, even those darn bills.

* Gather a few conkers and seed pods and bless each one with an intention for the season. Keep them in a little vintage trinket dish on your bedside as a reminder…

*Fill a tin with spare batteries, torches, and bulbs and store it somewhere for easy access during dark nights…

* Go squirrel hunting with the kids, wearing crowns fashioned from leaves…

* Sew yourself a DIY bed warmer

* Make the most of the abundance of gorgeous apples by making Waldorf salad your light, Autumn lunch of choice…

* Download Arthur Ransomes’ The Child’s Book of the Seasons and read the Autumn chapter out loud to your babba’s…

* Make a vanilla cheesecake with a scrumptious base of crushed ginger biscuits and cinnamon. Decorate with candied ginger…

* Stretch sepia colored doilies across small embroidery hoops to add lacy, spiders web like texture to seasonal vignettes…

“Autumn, the year’s last, loveliest smile.” – Write this quote from William Cullen Bryant on your family blackboard as a reminder of just what a blessing autumn truly is…

* Curl up and watch Food Matters and re-think your entire attitude to good health this season…

* Fashion an Autumn boutonniere from tiny pine cones, ivy leaves and velvet ribbon and pin it to your coat…

* Mix up a huge jar of mixed seeds and flavour with herbs and soy sauce for a nibbly Autumnal treat.

* Sample a collection of all the gourmet ciders you can now buy until you find one that thrills your tastebuds…

* Rent both Hannah and Her Sisters, and When Harry Met Sally for a cinematic reminder of Autumn…

Happy Autumn Housekeepers!

I love the idea of the washi tape, it’s not something I use, but maybe I should start! The cheesecake sounds an absolute must.
    Thank you for these.

Autumn’s always been my favorite. I miss the smell of burning leaves terribly. I hate the heat, and after summer, the coolness of Autumn brings me back to life more so than Spring after the Winter.

Read Truman Capote’s “A Christmas Memory” (it’s more Fall than Christmas), watch “The Rugrats: Acorn Nuts and Diapey Buts”, leave the windows open for as long as you can, buy gourds and put them in groups around the house.
