Just In time For Spring…

This new-style classic is simple to knit in stocking-stitch, and has a V-neck and tiny Magyar sleeves…

Materials: 1 oz. of La Laine 3-ply fingering, one pair each of No. 12 and No. 13 needles and one circular needle, size 13.

Tension : 8 sts. and 12 rows to one inch. Measurements :  Length 21 inches, to fit 34-inch bust.

Abbreviations: St.-st. = stocking-stitch (1 rowk., 1 row p.); St., sts. = stitch, stitches ; inc. = increase ; dec. = decrease; rep. = repeat;   cont. = continue ;   tog. = together; beg. = beginning ;  alt. = alternate.

Front: Cast on 120 sts. on No. 13 needles and work in rib of k. 1, p. 1 for 5 inches. Change to No. 12 needles and st.-st. and work 1 inch (12 rows).    Inc. at each end of next row.   Work 3 rows without shaping.    Rep. these 4 rows 8 more times (48 rows—138 sts.).    Next row : Inc. in 1st st., k. 59, cast off 18, k. 59, inc. in last st.   Work 2 rows without shaping.    Inc. at armhole edge on next row.   Work 2 rows-without shaping.    Rep. these 3 rows twice more (60 rows—64 sts.).    Begin neck shaping on next row and cont. through work, taking 2 tog. at beg. of this and every following 8th row.    At the same time cont. side shaping as follows :   inc. at end of every alt. row 6 times (72 rows—68 sts.).    Inc. at armhole edge of next 2 rows.    Work 1 row without shaping.    Rep. these 3 rows 3 more times (84 rows—72 sts.).    Inc. at armhole edge on next 3 rows (87 rows—74 sts.).    Work 3 rows without shaping at armhole edge.    Inc. at armhole edge on next row, then work 4 rows without shaping.    Rep. these 5 rows 15  more times,  still  cont.  neck  decs. throughout. Now cast off 8 sts. at beg. of every p. row until there are no sts. left. Work up second front to match but reversing all shapings.
Itach: Cast on 120 sts. on No. 13 needles and rib for 5 inches to match front.    Change to No. 12 needles and st.-st. and work 1 inch.    Inc. at each end of next row. Work 3 rows without shaping.    Rep. these 4 rows 8 times (48 rows—138 sts.).     Inc. at each end of next row. Work 2 rows without shaping.    Rep. these 3 rows 3 more times (60 rows—146 sts.).    Inc. at each end of eyery alt. row 6 times (72 rows—158 sts.).    Inc. at each end of next 2 rows, then work 1 row without shaping. Rep. these 3 rows 3 more times (84 rows—174 sts.). Inc. at each end of next 3 rows (87 rows—180 sts.). Work 3 rows without shaping.    Inc. at each end of next row, then work 7 rows without shaping.    Rep. these 8 rows 8 more times.    Now cast off 8 sts. at beg. of every row 20 times.    Cast off remaining 38 sts.

To Make Up: Press very well under a damp cloth.    Join shoulder seams.    Pick up 120 sts. along sleeve edge with No. 13 needles and work in rib for 2 inches.   Cast off ribwise.   Work second sleeve edge to match.   Pick up 200 sts. along sides and back of neck on circular needle and work 1 row in rib.    Turn and rib back.    Cont. ribbing in this way for 2 inches.   Cast off ribwise.   Join sleeve and side seams.    Sew right neck ribbing very neatly to cast off edge of front and sew left edge neatly beneath it.    Press seams.
