The Life Audit

Happy Monday y’all. It’s been a helluva few days with the darn norovirus taking over our lives while Finn suffered and I played Nurse Mummy until I felt like dropping, and somehow five days have been lost and the thread that stitches my life together has gone a little awry so I thought it might just be time to do a life audit and get back on track. As always please feel free to steal the graphic and do a life audit of your own, or indeed download the Life Audit PDF (it’s free) and get your pencil out…

Today I am…

Drinking lime water. Pleased that Finn is back to school. Fed up of this naughty cat because she simply will not leave me be. Eating “clean”. Thinking of taking a tepid minty bath to cool myself down. Thrilled that tiles for the bathroom have finally been bought and the room may one day be finished. Up to my eyes in laundry I will be attacking as soon as this lovely little life audit is completed. rolling about on a rubber ball to stretch my back.

Feeling…

Zippy.Scattered. Determined. Fat. Organised. A collection of feelings I think you will agree that seem to contradict each other but this is seems is how I run my life: feeling both scattered with a mind apt to wander, and organised because despite it all I always know exactly where everything is, what’s next on my to-do list and what should be happening here on Brocante. Sadly the fat thing is an ongoing battle and I do believe my dear doctor was telling a little porkie when he said the weight would fall off the minute my thyroid levels were steady. Naughty doctor. Naughty thyroid. Naughty Alison and her excessive olive habit.

Reading…

The Provincial Lady Complete Collection. Because although I have read this wonderful set of books before, this  set of all FIVE was just $0.99, and I couldn’t resist having them on my Kindle and launching a Summer spent in the rather delightful company of our joyful, exasperated, un-named protaganist. I wish she lived next door to me.

Eating…

Corn on the cob grilled with salty Normandy butter and black and red pepper. Barbecued everything because I own the biggest gas bbq you have ever seen in quite the teeniest of gardens. Marmite crisps and cubes of manchego together. Blueberry and banana smoothies for breakfast. Pineapple and Lime juice. No bread. Because it seems to be killing me.

Planning…

On taking Alfie for a long walk with Mum tomorrow. A weekend in a gin bar in August (woo hoo!). On getting the bathroom finished so bathing doesn’t feel like trying to feel pampered while sitting in the local tip. And on doing my very own Creative Home Spa this coming weekend before I unleash all these heavenly, life re-setting instructions upon you, my lovely Housekeeping Superstars.

Dreaming of…

Michael Fassbender. Micheal Fassbender and ummm, yeah: Micheal Fassbender. My new celebrity crush and a man in the spirit of how men should be.

Coveting…

These rather divine sterling silver hoop earrings because I like to wear my heart in my ears. And At Home with Madame Chic, because I love the idea of becoming a connoisseur of daily life: though sadly it isn’t out until November. Darn Amazon and it’s publishing teasers.

Wishing…

I had a car. (I’m going mildly mental). The sun didn’t keep frazzling my hanging baskets. Yet despite that, wishing and hoping that the sun will keep shining because I swear, dear Housekeepers, ANYTHING is possible when the sun is shining. Anything at all. Even mini miracles.

Working On…

The Creative Home Spa. Seriously: It is WONDERFUL. Also on completing the first of my School of Life Workshops. And processing all the absolutely wonderful ideas you have submitted in my Cath Kidson competition.  I simply cannot believe all the wonderful ideas you have come up with and I am so very, very grateful to you all for helping me conjure up a way forward. Finally completing The BrocanteHome Help Desk: a permanent solution to the questions so many of you have about Brocantehome.

Celebrating…

The Universe. A few months ago, I completed a vision board and posted on it a little doggy I swear is the absolute double of Alfie. While I had no hand in choosing Finn’s puppy, he is EXACTLY the dog I wished for. Exactly. I conjured him up! So now I am working on conjuring up a Michael Fassbender’s doppelgänger. Or even the man himself please.

Grateful For…

Change. It pushes you forward. Disappointment. It helps you see what is. Inspiration, because happily it keeps on coming.

And finally tomorrow I will be…

Getting up early to carry on with my Morning Miracle program. Selling my first collection of vintage domestic literature on Etsy. Making this bean salad. Making enquiries into financing the Masters course in Creative Writing I have been desperate to do for far too many years now. Lifelong learning matters doesn’t it?

On my to-do list this month?

* File and tidy all papers accumulating in the red finance box.
* Sort out the garden: I have been excessively late in getting it ship-shape this year but I am determined to make it pretty again while the sun is still shining…
* Planning the school holiday calender so that everyday doesn’t have to begin with pummelling my brain to think of something to do that will keep Finley off that darn xbox!
* Place an order with Goodness Direct so Finn’s gluten free cupboard is re-stocked with the Orgran animal biscuits he adores.
* Order new plastic, pump-action bottles for my own cleaners as my existing ones are looking a little shabby. And not in a good way. ( I buy from SHC Web via Amazon.)
* And re-stock my rag bag with all the T-shirts Finley has suddenly grown out of.
Happy Summer Housekeepers!
