A New Week

By alison September 20, 2010 27 Comments 4 Min Read

I am wearing a t-shirt with holes in. I don’t know why it has got holes in but it has: perhaps I have loved it to death? Whatever. I feel obliged to take it off, but I can’t because I love it. It is warm. It is tight and black with long sleeves and it makes me feel thin and I don’t know why I am telling you this, other than I thought you should know that this is the kind of women I am: even when the things I love grow glaring horrible holes, I carry on loving them. I’m not sure that it is good for me. But hey ho, you are who you are, right?
And so it is that another week is upon is and after a weekend away from the computer I feel as if I have thirty three hundred things I need to share with you and so I’m just going to spill thought after notice, notice after thought and you are going to agree not to hold it against me ok? There is opportunity to add a permanent link to your site from Brocante at the end of the post, so read on till you get there if you please…

First up, a few changes around here:  In the sidebar you will notice a new section called “Scrumptious Little Asides”: these are short posts that won’t appear in the mainstream feed of the site, so you will need to pop over to Brocante to read them. They will mostly be links to lovely sites, books and treasure that I find as I go about my online travels and will I hope add another layer of  loveliness to the site and one more reason to make BrocanteHome your first online destination in the morning…
Next along, the RSS feed: I am going to be experimenting with a partial RSS feed, which again means that you will have to pop over to the site to read BrocanteHome, although partial posts will still appear in your RSS feed and your email in-box as and when I write them. I repeat, this is an experiment: if there is an outcry I will go back to the full feed, but please understand that BrocanteHome supports  my little boy and I, and full feeds have a dramatic impact on reader interaction…

After a crazy week spent in search of suitable shoes to dance in at the ball we attended this weekend (more of which tomorrow), I am still head to toe in mid-scrub chaos and thus, in-between shifting furniture, will be continuing to pop posts about the Seasonal Scrub on here until the end of September. As I have said a million times before, life does get so thoughtlessly in the way of housework, but better to be swung around a dance-floor to “I’ve Had the Time of My Life” with Richard than to be on my knees scrubbing the sideboards on a Saturday night, don’t you agree? So if you are feeling similarly compromised: don’t. It is life first, housework second, always. (Don’t be one of those women will you?)
Other things certain to be on the Posting agenda this week?
* The second in my series on “Housewives In Art”
* A review of Elizabeth Goudges absolutely heavenly book The Scent of Water”.
* A guide to up-grading your life the BrocanteHome way…
Things I’m Working On
* The August edition of Puttery Post Monthly (in your in-boxes, slightly behind schedule, tomorrow Puttery Posters!)
* A new download packed full of Brocante recipes for organic cleaning, just perfect for slipping inside your Housekeepers Planner. Hopefully finished by the end of the week. Or possibly the beginning of next?
* And a rather gorgeous new Vintage Housekeepers Planner binder, you will be able to order online.

Finally news of a couple of new features coming soon to Brocante…
First at some point during this week I will be holding an apron giveaway in conjuction with the very lovely Amy at Aprons By Amy

Secondly, I have recruited a darling little posse of  four guest bloggers for BrocanteHome all of whom will be taking turns of piece to write columns on their very own spin on life as a Vintage Housekeeper. There are four in all, and they all have unique voices and specialities and I feel so honoured to have their agreement to write here…
I will be introducing them one by one over the next couple of weeks, so stay posted for their initial gorgeous hello’s…
And last but not least, I am in the process of conjuring up a directory full of links to all the places I believe you, my lovely Housekeepers, will find useful. One of the sections will be a blog roll of scrumptiously happy vintage or homemaking themed blogs and sites, so if you want to be included, be sure to add your details in the linky love list below.
That’s all for now Sweety pies, thank you as always for continuing to read BrocanteHome, for every one of your kind comments and emails, and for loving me, holes and all.
I love you too. Sooooo much. Have a truly scrumptious week now won’t you?

Add the Link you would like to be considered for the blog directory here: all sites will be considered as long as they are in the general remit of Brocante, so the more the better…

I have a similar t-shirt, left behind by my daughter when she went away to college. White, long sleeved, v-necked, with tiny little holes in it here and there. It comforts me on those days when I just can't face Life. And connects me to her, in a small way. I have lots of clothes like that — cast-offs from friends and family that I put on when I feel out of sorts and need to be someone else for awhile.

Lynne I've never thought of what it means to pull on someone else's clothing… to be someone else for a while…

  4. I don't remember if I've ever commented before, though I have been reading your blog for some time. (Shame on me.) BUT, I just wanted to say how delightful your blog is and how much it motivates me. Thank you.

I do like the sound of the changes, it wouldn't matter what you did though Id still visit. You are a staple in my day, because of your blog I now do things differently. You put into words feelings id always had about the way I wanted to live my home life, I just didn't know where to start or what to do, you made it real and achievable and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have to say too that at times the parallels are quiet eerie. I often come to Brocante for a hug but I realised that Ive never given you one back, so here it is. Thanks again. Megan xx

  9. How funny! I've been toying with the idea of doing a resource (blogroll) page on my blog as well, and your lovely blog (which I've been addicted to for about a year now) is one of the blogs I MUST include!

Yes, Alison Dear, you are my first online destination everyday. Even before checking the heartbeat statistics of my very own blog. You have me addicted, and oh, how wonderful it is. I hope my vintage inspired blog falls within your criterion.

Your website is always my first port of call n a morning – it brightens my day and inspires me. I was wondering, though, what size the planner binder will be? I have mine printed on A5 to make it handbag size so I am just curious. Thank you x
