Revitalising My Spirit At The Range

In association with The Range
Every Friday (almost without fail), Mum and I visit our local branch of The Range and inevitably pick up a little domestic something to gladden our silly hearts. We buy rolling pins and oilcloth. Photo frames and turkey basters. We buy tea-towels, mixing bowls, wallpaper paste and coffee pots. In fact, you name it and we have probably bought it there…

This morning I did something rather daring – after finally getting Finn back into school after a long week off, I took myself to Southport and prowled around The Range all by myself. You see I’ve got the domestic blues and a person suffering from the domestic blues needs a dose of pretty little inspiration to help her get her bottom into gear. So I set myself the rather lovely task of buying a little something for every dark corner in my dusty house. To revitalize my spirit and bring a little seasonal cheer into my life…

This is one of my most treasured rituals. Taking a small sum of money and at the turn of each season shopping for a small collection of  little wot-nots to make the house feel fresh again. For isn’t it true that it really doesn’t take much at all to pick a room up out of the doldroms? Isn’t it quite so that even a jug full of daffodils will make the kitchen seem as if Spring has fluttered through the door? It is indeed…

And so I wandered around The Range with a basket slung over my arm, picking things up and putting them down and stopping for a hot chocolate and setting off all over again to really enjoy choosing a little bit of Spring for home and heart – and this my friends is what I came home with…

The Range - Pots

The rather darling, all-weather little lavender wreath above, now hanging on my front door, to share my good cheer with all who care to pass, and this set of pretty, French inspired tin buckets for a happy little collection of plants.  A lovely red primula for the kitchen window sill, a tiny pot of 50p daffodils for the bathroom and a dark, winding ivy for the living room…

The Range - Lights

As the  lighting collection in  The Range is particularly strong,  I dithered over all kinds of options before finally settling on this beautiful set of Moroccan inspired fairy lights to drape over my headboard, so my bed will be a blissful riot of shadow and pattern when I finally talk myself upstairs tonight…

The Range - Shadow box

Then I treated myself to something I have been wanting from The Range for months: a deep, cream shadow box with a magnetic lid in which to keep a revolving collection of teeny tiny treasures to be appreciated.  Now residing on my coffee table…

The Range - Chalkboard Labels

A set of chalkboard labels with which to label anything and everything in the kitchen…

The Range - Journal2

And finally my darlings, a La-De-Dah journal for my desk…

The Range - Journal1

Similar in concept to much heralded Smash Journals, La-De-Dah Journals come complete with the rather wonderfully combined pen and glue stick, and there a collection of labels and stickers to be had to decorate your pages, which I could not resist chucking into my basket too…

This then was quite the most perfect way to feel better about the house: a lovely morning in an abundant store, gathering all the little somethings I need to awaken my sleeping domestic heart from hibernation and to spark my creative spirit all over again…

Such lovely things! I recently bought a Phaelanopsis Orchid to brighten up my piano.

  2. I have no idea where the nearest Range is where I am. But my hairdresser raves about it. Must think to ask her where she goes.
