English Eccentricity…

There is a fabulous article about the eccentrity of the English by Lucia van der Post on Departures.Com.

No I can’t explain the allure of either Marks and Spencers or Marmite, I only know I couldn’t live without either, and that having a penchant for all things shabby is no bad thing…

Read it and try to understand.

Here is Australia, we have vegimite which is similar to marmite. Certainly an acquired taste and definately one which I think you have to be bought up on to like. I LOVE it !

Hi, I love your site – so dainty! I wanted to chime in on the Marmite and the Marks and Spencer's. Personally I am anti-Marmite (maybe it is just too weird for an American to ever appreciate!) but emphatically pro-Marks. The food section alone makes it!

I'm a HUGE fan of British comedy because I love the absurd and eccentric, so I am thrilled that we can get BBC by satellite now. I would love to read the Lucia van der Post article, but can't get on the Departures.com site without an American Express card. Can you post it?
