Handmade at Amazon – A New Artisan Marketplace

Well it has landed Housekeepers! Today see’s the launch of Handmade at Amazon: a direct competitor to the bliss that is Etsy with all the convenience of shopping at Amazon.
It is a vast selection of artisan goods available for immediate order with the rallying call going out from Handmade at Amazon to any crafts-person or artist who wants to get involved.
I guess how you feel about Handmade depends entirely upon how you feel about Amazon and the power of huge corporations of it’s ilk. I know that this is a controversial view but to my mind competition is competition and when the weight of something as huge as Amazon comes and stands behind individual artisans with a program like Handmade at Amazon that looks to be equally as rewarding as Etsy’s business model, I can only see benefits for the makers who choose to get involved.

An initial browse around the site reveals both frights and delights but I guess that it is both early days and indeed the nature of the beast, though I have spotted some absolutely gorgeous little gems which I will be merrily sharing with you in the run up to Christmas in my Christmas Stocking Series launching next week.
In the meantime go have a little look and let me know what you think.

  1. I’m very interested to see how this does. I still love Etsy but I like having options. 🙂
