I found these little cake pictures in the BestWay Cookery Book (Find  it at Abebooks.com), from the 1930’s along with a few others depicting food to gruesome to mention (Steak and sausage cake anyone? Or how about a corned beef block?). And I’m thinking of framing them and hanging them in the kitchen, cos they’re cute and colourful.

Do you think it would be sacrilege to cut them out?

I think it would be lovely to cut them out and hang them in the kitchen. I understand your pain at the thought of cutting up such a great old book, but far more people will get to enjoy the delightful pictures if they are framed and on your walls.

Hi Alison! remember what you told us all ages ago about cutting books up? they are not precious!! go ahead, cut them up – as a child I was not allowed to cut up old encyclopedias and am now the proud owner of about 3 sets of out of date worthless books. If you don't cut them up, years down the track Finley will probably toss them. enjoy them now!!!!

Enjoy cutting them out without guilt! Or make color copies if you really value the book extant… I know you'll do the right thing!

i think you should do colour photocopies of the pictures, then you will still have the originals safe in the book.

Photocopies it is! Stained with tea so they look as deliciosly old and battered as they do in the book..
