Remember, Remember the Fifth of November…

..Because that’s when I’m getting married.
Yep. That’s right. November the 5th this year. Exactly 109 days to go from today. Just over three months. Fifteen and a half weeks to lose half my body weight and prepare my brain for being a married woman!
Why in the name of all that is twinkly have I lumbered myself with what looks to be a shotgun wedding date?
Because neither of us could say no to a Daddy who clearly believes he might not be around long enough to see us walk back up the aisle as bride and groom.  Because on the day we got engaged we planned to get married next April, but when we went to tell the news to Richards Dad, he whispered “soon” and some things are more important than indulging my inner bridezilla…
And so, at 3.30 on November 2011 I will marry Richard at The Vincent Hotel, Southport, which has just enough heritage as a former art deco cinema to keep me satisfied, for though this won’t be  the polka dotty flower sprinkled wedding of my dreams, I am busy constructing a beautiful new sepia toned, blue lined old Hollywood style dream, and the wedding has been planned so that just as we sit down to eat the Southport skyline should explode with fireworks…
Darlings, I am in an ABSOLUTE frenzy.

    Pics!
As if I need to ask, but will you be doing an inspiration board (and then share it with your less than clued up fellow brides? :P)
We've moved our date back to August 2013 but the luxury of time sorta stresses me out more, if that makes sense! Having too much choice and all 😛
Congrats again, I know it'll be spectacular 😀

What a great day to pick! My wedding anniversary is 6th November and it was one of those lovely autumnal days, and we had fire works! Hope the planning goes well x

If any woman could pull off a beautiful wedding in that amount of time – you can. Remember to enjoy it!
As for the latest Housekeeper circle post: abso-bloody-lutely! I'm so pleased that someone else agrees with me that love isn't in ironing underpants at midnight. I try to keep an organised home so it gives me more time to spend 'making memories' with my children. Not because I want them to remember me slaving over the dishes for years on end. To me, housekeeping is a means to an end and as I have to do it, I might as well find ways to make it a little less tiresome.
P.S Good luck with the wedding plans!

I had a special note book to keep all details of my planning in- appointments, inspirations, adverts and Uncle Tom Cobbley and all! It is a treasured keepsake now. (It was long before I had a computer or the web had exploded…none of the ads have http://www.com in them!)
And as for the diet…Dukan does it. No doubt, no ifs and buts, it just works. I guarentee it. Happy days dear Alison!

Congratulations Alison and Richard! Best Wishes to you. Alison, dear, please do not try to lose half your body weight in three months, you will compromise your health and sanity. No dress is worth it. Richard loves you as you are. 25 pounds, is that about 12 k? will be plenty enough to make people say "Darling, you look wonderful!" Lots of skim milk yogurt.

  7. I am just thrilled for you! Congratulations!

How brilliant to choose November 5! Take a deep breath and don't give in to the crazy making stuff, Alison dear. What is most important is you, your sweetheart, Finn, and family and friends. Add in pretty flowers, yummy food, and a few sweet touches and it will be perfection!

I am so happy for you Alison! Thanks for sharing the link to the Vincent Hotel too, it looks fab. I'm busy planning my January wedding at the moment (that's summer where I'm from), so it will be interesting to hear about all your experiences. Best of luck! xxx

Oh how wonderful! Ok so the time will go by like a flash, but in my experience that happens no matter what the length of the engagement! What a beautiful venue, and every good wish! xxx

PS I know you have a million ideas of your own….but ooh, bridesmaids holding candles rather than flowers, fireworks as you leave, and sparklers in teeny heart shaped cupcakes…..its going to be a sparkly wonderful brocante-extravaganza of loveliness!

  14. Sasha says:

Oooh – gorgeous venue! And Art Deco – a perfect era for simple elegance with just a touch of glamour!!! SO many ideas…….. November, I'm thinking slinky long silk number (easily done/found in that time frame) with a faux fur shrug, 'diamond' brooches, candles, fairy lights, cocktails of the era, a jazz/blues band perhaps……. I can see it all!!! Wowee, what a dreamy wedding it will be! x

Oooooh Alison… We will share an anniversary as we were married on November 5, also! I planned it myself, and kept everything simple enough to put it all together ourselves. We rented an historic house, had a gorgeous cake delivered, the Judge came, a solo hammer dulcimer musician, and me in my wedding dress I spent weeks sewing myself. We took our honeymoon on a drive to the Oregon coast, and the yellow autumn leaves mesmerized me. It will always be so special in my mind, as yours will be for you. I'm so happy for you.

Gosh, there is so much to think about, but at least having a soon-ish deadline does make one get on with it?! Alison, you are just going to LOVE pouring your creative soul into planning the details of your wedding. Finally, it's happening, and it's just perfect, all of it. Enjoy every minute. Looking forward to hearing snippets about your plans (I kept my plans, brochures, clippings etc in a binder, in plastic sleeves – a lovely keepsake), but also to seeing the photos come November!
