Smudge Sticks.

Some of the most deliciously simple ways to fragrance our homes have spiritual connatations many of us resist. Talk about incense brings to mind ageing hippys and forgotten youth and the mere mention of smudge sticks conjures up all kinds of crazy ladys, jingling bells and communicating with the Gods…

But it is a shame because both smudge sticks and natural incense can be scrumptiously natural ways to introduce herbal fragrances into our home…

To make a smudge stick,  gather a bundle of sage, rosemary, and lavender and cut to similair lengths, then wrap together with natural string (anything manmade will melt, release an obnoxious smell or go on fire!) up the length of the herbs so they form a secure, but not too tightly bound bundle. Then set the stick on something sturdy and fireproof (a large scallop shell looks attractive), light the bottom, blow out and leave to let the fragrance diffuse…

Alternatively, for a simple take on incense, strip a single length of lavender of it’s flowers, then set the end alight, blow out and allow the natural oil in the stem to fragrance your home…

Thank you so much for the instructions. I went right out and bundled a couple as my sage is starting to die back for the season. They smell heavenly.
