Today choose a calendar you and your partner can share, so that you are always aware of plans you may have individually made and can schedule other events accordingly. Make sure that it’s a calendar accessible on both of your phones and if necessary on both iPhone and android, so it can be downloaded to and viewed on all tablets.
Google Calendar is an excellent choice, but you could also consider shared family calendars like Hub or Cozi and create one fully featured place to share events, messages and grocery lists.
Then allocate an hour one evening per week to make sure your shared calendar is up to date, and schedule together time and date nights for the upcoming weeks. There now: better right?
Today take a long, hard look at your children’s after school activities and commitments and see where you can cut back both for the sake of allowing your child to have some do nothing time built-in to their week and reducing your own commitment as resident taxi-driver.
Look particularly for clubs and activities that happen on different evenings for different siblings and research alternative groups that happen on the same night. Children do not need to attend organised activity each and every night of the week. Their young minds are already a constant buzz of information and they need time to be able to process it during unscheduled at home time spent simply learning to be among family.
This one is important for the sake of better family harmony and explaining the reasons why you are cutting down on their activities will go a long way to making the transition easier for the children concerned.
